I'm Steve Sole and I am a college essay advisor. I am the one on the left and the other people are paid actors. Just kidding! That's my beautiful family.

MY BACKGROUND

I have been around the college application process for a decade. I was an alumni interviewer, as well as co-chair for all Southern California alumni interviewers, for my undergraduate alma mater, Emory University. Along with my bachelor's from Emory, I also possess an MFA in Film/Screenwriting from Columbia University. So, I write. I write scripts, tv pilots, and the occasional pointed letter to an elected official or journalist. Additionally, I have worked with family and friends on their college essays for several years and realized I enjoyed it.

Also, I love words - their origins, meanings, spellings - so much so that this past academic year I brought back, organized, and led the Scripps Spelling Bee at my children's elementary school.  It was a great success and our school champion went to the Los Angeles County Bee this Spring!

MY PROCESS

There is no set formula to writing your personal statement. Rather, it is a process of which I see two ways to go about. The first is to begin by talking about…wait for it…YOU. Who are you? What is important to you? What story do you want to tell? From there, we will pick which prompt best fits with what you want to say. The other way is to pick from the list of prompts and see which one speaks to you. Either way, we will then brainstorm ideas which will lead to an outline, a subsequent first draft, and ultimately an uncompromising final essay. It will define you as a person and distill what you will bring to the table as a potential matriculated student so an admissions officer will pause on your application.  Please see my 'Services' for more details.
