I'm Steve Sole and I am a college consultant. I am the one on the left and the other people are paid actors. Just kidding! That's my beautiful family.

MY BACKGROUND

I have been around the college application process for a decade. I was an alumni interviewer, as well as co-chair for all Southern California alumni interviewers, for my undergraduate alma mater, Emory University. Along with my bachelor's from Emory, I also possess an MFA in Film/Screenwriting from Columbia University. So, I write. I write scripts, tv pilots, and the occasional pointed letter to an elected official or journalist. Additionally, I have worked with family and friends on their college applications and essays for several years and realized I enjoyed it.

Also, I love words - their origins, meanings, spellings - so much so that I brought back, organized, and led the Scripps Spelling Bee at my children's elementary school. It has been a great success and our school champions have consistently gone to the Los Angeles County Bee!

MY PROCESS

There is no set formula to creating your college wish list. Rather, it is a process that begins with talking about…wait for it…YOU.

Who are you?
What is important to you?
How are your grades and board scores?
What classes have you taken at your respective high school relative to what they offer?

But the most important is what kind of culture are you looking for? You can be a Biology, English, or Data Science major anywhere. You literally have thousands of choices. But what truly matters is what kind of environment does a school's administration cultivate?.

You're spending four years and a lot of money to get an education, both in and out of the classroom, make friends, and set yourself on a promising post-graduate path. So, don't be afraid to hold your list of schools to scrutiny.
